Prepared to Walk Away Are you prepared to walk away from everything? This rarely asked question shapes one of the most important principles in my life. We are all familiar with the age-old hypothetical in which our home is burning and we must grab only the things that are most important to us. Of course, most of us would not dash into the inferno and reach for material items firstâ€"we’d ensure the safety of our loved ones and pets. Then, once they were safe, we’d grab only the irreplaceable thingsâ€"photos, hard drives, family heirlooms. Everything else would be lost in the conflagration. I like to look at this thought experiment differently, though, taking the theoretical a bit further. There is a scene in Heat in which Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) says, “Allow nothing in your life that you cannot walk out on in 30 seconds flat.” Although my life is nothing like McCauley’s (he’s the films bad guy), I share his sentiment. Almost everything I bring into my lifeâ€"possessions, ideas, habits, and even relationshipsâ€"I must be able to walk away from at a moment’s notice. Many readers will disagree because this credo sounds crass. But Id like to posit that its the opposite: our preparedness to walk away is the ultimate form of caring. If I purchase new physical goods, I need to make certain I don’t assign them too much meaning. Being able to walk away means I won’t ever get too attached to my belongings, and being unattached to stuff makes our lives tremendously flexibleâ€"filled with opportunity. If I take on a new idea or habit, I do so because it has the potential to benefit my life. New ideas shape the future Me. Same goes for habits. Over time my ideas change, improve, and expand, and my current habits get replaced by new ones that continue to help me grow. Our readiness to jilt ideas or habits means we’re willing to growâ€"we’re willing to constantly pursue a better version of ourselves. If I bring a new relationship into my world, I know I must earn their love, respect, and kindness. I also expect they, too, are willing to leave should I not provide the support and understanding they require. Thus, we both must work hard to contribute to the relationship. We must communicate and remain cognizant of each other’s needs. And, above all, we must care. These fundamentalsâ€"love, communication, understanding, caringâ€"build trust, which builds a stronger connection in the long run. It sounds paradoxical, but our willingness to walk away strengthens our bond with others. And the opposite stanceâ€"being chained by obligation to a relationshipâ€"is disingenuous, a false loyalty birthed from pious placation. There are obvious exceptions to this ruleâ€"efforts we cannot easily abandon: a marriage, a business partnership, a career, a passion. The key is to have as few exceptions as possible. Crucially, even these exceptions aren’t exceptions. Marriages often end, as do businesses. People get laid off, and passions change over time. Even though we might not be able to walk away from these endeavours in “30 seconds flat,” we can ultimately decamp when these situations no longer serve us. Everything I allow into my life enters it deliberately. If my home was aflame, there’s nothing I own that can’t be replaced: All photos are scanned. All important files are backed up. And all the stuff has no real meaning. Similarly, I’m prepared to walk away from nearly anythingâ€"even the people closest to meâ€"if need be. Doing so safeguards my continued growth and improves my relationships, both of which contribute to a fulfilling, meaningful life. It was C.S. Edwards, John Reid Edwards, John Reid (Johnny Reid Edwards), 1953â€", U.S. politician, b. Seneca, S.C., grad. North Carolina State Univ. (B.A., 1974), Univ. of North Carolina (J.D., 1977). The son of a textile-mill worker and a postal employee, he was raised in a small North Carolina town and was the first person in his family to attend college. For two decades he had a successful practice as a trial lawyer, specializing in personal injury cases. A vigorous and photogenic Democrat, Edwards turned to politics in 1998, defeating the Republican incumbent to become a U.S. senator from North Carolina. In office, he served on the intelligence committee and supported such causes as affirmative action, abortion rights, and the reform of health-care insurance and campaign finance laws. Edwards ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004, but was picked by the nominee, John Kerry , as his running mate. Kerry and Edwards lost to President Bush and Vice President Cheney in the Nov., 200 4, election. Edwards subsequently ran unsuccessfully for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. In 2009 it was revealed that he had had an extramarital affair and fathered an out-of-wedlock child. He was charged in 2011 with campaign funding violations arising from a cover-up of the affair, but his trial in 2012 ended largely in a mistrial, and the charges subsequently were dropped. What is the best way to learn? The best way for a person to learn depends on the person, of course. It is well know that people have different leaning styles that work best for them. The best approach for an instructor to take is to address a variety of learning styles with their teaching plan. It is also helpful to encourage students to understand their preferred leaning style. By the time students reach the college level it is often assumed that they have figured out the best and most productive way to study to retain information. Of course, this is not a correct assumption. Teachers should make students aware of the various learning styles and encourage them to consider their preferred style as they complete their studies. However, some students do not like much structure and appreciate being given choices and allowed to be creative. Sociological Some students benefit greatly from group activities and other do not. Cooperative learning is an important learning tool but some students are more introverted than others and may have difficulty participating in group activities. Auditory Some students learn best by listening. Auditory learners do well with lecture, class discussions, etc. While lecture is considered the least effective teaching method, some students learn best by simply listening. These students may also be more sensitive to outside noises. Visual Visual learners benefit from a variety of ocular stimulation. One example would be the use of colors. In todays time just one hacker can infiltrate governments and companies and release mass amounts of private information and details. The secret hacking group, Anonymous is a group of unknown hackers that have recently been hunted down by governments around the world (mainly the US and British). They should not be looked at as â€Å"domestic terrorists† but as protesting citizens. Terrorists put fear into people, but Anonymous interests the public. They have even been called â€Å"Digital Robin Hoods† (Carter, 2012). Since Anonymous mostly goes after companies and organizations they believe are corrupt or bad, and since they dont do any physical harm to anyone they should not be persecuted and put in jail. They release private information about the websites of companies, religious groups, and governments to show the public who they really are and what they are really doing. They also use a tactic called DDos which is basically where Anonymous overruns a website so muc h nobody else can then on go on that website.The U.S. government goes after anonymous hacktivists and similar groups but turns a blind eye to pro US/anti Terrorist hackers. A con of what Anonymous does is that when they release private government documents via Wikileaks or different sources, other governments like China and Russia can access the information released which can possibly be threatening to the U.S. Anonymous does more good than bad. Most of the blacks before the First World War were reported to be living in the south. About 90 percent of the blacks were in the records. Additionally, about 77 percent of blacks were living in the former slave states and only 27 percent were living in these states (McGuire 250). When it came to the year 1946, the manufacturing industry employed more blacks that increased to about 135 percent as compared to 1940. Additionally, the blacks also joined the industrial unions under the influence of the congress of industrial organizations. Tens of thousands of black people were employed in the industrial union while one hundred thousand black people joined the aircraft industry. The aircraft industry was organized and managed by the United Auto Workers. On the other hand, five thousand blacks entered the National Maritime Union. There was a total of 75,000 black voters in Texas and a total of 100,000 black registered voters in Georgia by the year 1946. This was before the sit-ins and the non-violent demonstrations started to occur. This calm situation lasted for almost ten years with no mass movements, overt and street demonstrations which challenged racism. A molecular orbital is an orbital or wave function of a molecules electron. The function may be used to calculate the probability of finding an electron within a specified space or to predict the molecules chemical and physical properties. Robert Mulliken introduced the term orbital in 1932 to describe a one-electron orbital wave function. Electrons around a molecule can be associated with more than one atom and are often expressed as a combination of atomic orbitals. Atomic orbitals within a molecule can interact if they have compatible symmetries. The number of molecular orbitals is equal to the number of atomic orbitals combined to form a molecule.
